I have a dream
On the way back to Ipoh from JB in my colleague's car, a thought suddenly came to my mind.
I want to start a tuition cum community centre in Taman Molek. Not this year. But maybe in the near future. One that takes in poor students. Poor - both in finance & studies. It's a place where they come to learn at their own pace. If they are in Form 4 & they can't read, it's a place where they can come & pick books from the resource centre & learn to read with the help of volunteer teachers.
It's a place where students are given lots of attention, love & encouragement to live out their potentials. Even if they are slow learners, they will be accepted here. Even if in 1 year, all they can do is speak basic English (and still fail SPM English), that's alright. At least, they can by then speak enough to entertain customers at McDonald's.
I'd like to see this happen. It's something that's not easy. Where would funding come from? Would there be enough volunteer teachers? Would there be students? (Seeing that many students don't try because they are VERY VERY lazy) It's something out of my comfort zone. And I'd like to see this centre turn into a centre where people would be introduced to Jesus too, through personal friendships, not through pulpit-banging-preaching.
We'll see...
